Deltagarna berättar om: Stories in the Wild, ALBA:s sommarsymposium i Norge, 2016

Årets tema var Stories in the Wild, vilket alla workshop-hållare knöt an till på olika vis.

Nikolas Haugeneder - about the workshop with Georgiana och Ivanir
A wonderful experience to participate with my son Noah (9) in this workshop. Ivanir and Georgiana set up a workshop with great empathy and skill to meet the needs of kids from 4 to 13 and their parents. It was big fun to perform with the kids at the beach in this amazing landscape.

Denise Weyermann - about the workshop with Hugh Lupton
A slim, tall airy man, with a thundering voice, a body-language that enchants and playing forcefully with words. Words like butterflies flying all around him, dancing on a tune he played with a small flute, the melody still hanging around in the air. Words evoking parallel universes in this rainy summer day in Norway.
Hugh Lupton. The british storyteller whose workshop I’d booked. Slowly, unexcited, modestly he led us into a world in which the earth, the stones, the trees, the rivers, the mountains contain the stories we are to tell.  And being receptive and sucking in every  word we utter.
Together we told the story of the „Troll with no heart“ out there in the wild, rainy beauty of the norwegian country. But we were not just telling the story, we were as well caught into incantation: we were asked during the storytelling...“Which salmon?“...Which father?...Which troll?..and the answers were verses, lyrical gems scattered all over the story.
Storytelling got to a new dimension thanks to this invocations and incantations, deeply connected to the landscape in which the story was told. Each and everyone of us got to the inspired place inside us thanks to our bard, the story becoming timeless,  all of us becoming linked to all the storytellers before and after us by the story having been told, being told and which will be told over and over again for thousands of years.
Time being experienced as layers of memories covering the landscape, being re-dis-covered by emerging in its beauty, in the depth of the old story and the inner realms of the evoked sceneries inside the storyteller, getting him or her to her own, yet unknown depths.
Grateful. My heart is full.

Tricia Cleland Silva - about the workshop with Georgiana och Ivanir
Our family wanted an adventure, a break from the ordinary, this summer, and ALBA’s symposium Stories in the Wild gave us this opportunity through a creative, inviting space and guidance into a world of stories about nature. These stories connected us and our children to the wilderness, and the workshop we participated in, Children’s caravan, grounded us in a simple tale of a country mouse and a cat. Through this story, our children played in the beautiful Norweigian landscape while learning how to tell a story through song, dance, and theatre.

Bernie Kennedy - about the workshop with Hugh Lupton
Hugh's workshop inspired me to return to my own dreaming place, where I grew up, 12 Hawthorne Avenue, after nearly 50 years. For a while, I felt held, suspended between two spaces in time, as in liminal space till a passing car stopped to ask for directions and brought me back, though it took a few moments.
